UK Pavilion, Expo 2015 Milan

The Hive

Christine Losecaat was retained as Consulting Creative & Programme Director for the UK at the World Expo – Milan 2015.

The Expo’s theme was Feeding the Planet – Energy for Life. Christine wrote and developed the UK’s participation theme statement and oversaw the commissioning, design and build of the multi-award winning 2,000 sq m UK Pavilion, which was based on highlighting the role of the honey bee and other pollinators in our food supply chain.

Christine delivered the initial anchor sponsors and was a key part of the team who successfully delivered a participation that captured the imagination of thousands every day, whilst managing to align differing stakeholder agendas across 6 government departments. Christine also conceived the accompanying Grown in Britain programme – a series of 200+ events that took place globally including 6 GREAT Weeks in Milan.

The Expo entertained over 20 million visitors, the UK Pavilion was the UK’s 2015 most visited paid visitor attraction with over 3 million visitors and the Pavilion has been the recipient of over 20 international design awards, including the coveted BIE Gold Medal. The Grown in Britain Business Programme has contributed over £500m to the UK economy.

The Hive from the UK Pavilion has been relocated to Kew Gardens in London.
